FRA-UNIted Obtains a 4th Place at RoboCup 2024
With a phenomenal series of three victories against strong opposing teams, FRA-UNIted climbed to 4th place in the final ladder format games. First, in the defense game, the Romanian team Oxsy was defeated 1-0 in a very fast-paced and varied match. Next, we faced RoboCIn from Brazil in the match for 5th place. Their team had shown significant improvement compared to the previous year. Many chances went unutilized at first, but ultimately it was our two goals in the second half that decided the game. In the immediately following match for 4th place, we met the Iranian team R2D2, took a 1-0 lead, but conceded the equalizer during regular time. The subsequent overtime brought no further goals, so the decision had to be made in a penalty shootout, where we prevailed 3-2. Particularly pleasing from our perspective: the penalty shootout behavior used here was successfully developed by students in the "Computer Science Project: Soccer Simulation" course and proved its competitiveness. In the next stage of the ladder, we competed for 3rd place against the Chinese team YuShan. For a long time, nothing happened in this match. Once again, it was tied at the end of regular time (0-0). In the second half of overtime, YuShan executed a quick counterattack that led to the winning goal, marking the end of the ladder games for our team and resulting in 4th place overall. Congratulations to the old and new world champion Helios from Japan.
